   ਜਦ ਵੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉੱਦੋ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਨਾ ਵੀ ਇਨਕਲਾਬੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।  ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਵੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਤਰ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਜਦ ਅਸੀਂ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਜੇਲ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਚਿਠੀਆਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਸਾਨੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਅਲੱਗ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬੌਧਿਕ ਸਤਰ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ  ਦਾਰਸ਼ਨਿਕ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤਮਈ ਸੁਭਾਅ ਦੇ ਸਨ। 24 ਜੁਲਾਈ 1930 ਵਿਚ  ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੈਦੇਵ ਗੁਪਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖੇ ਪੱਤਰ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਨੂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਲਚਸਬੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਚਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੱਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਤੋਂ ਕੁੱਜ  12 ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਮੰਗਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹੱਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਸਟਨ ਜੇਲ ਦੇ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਡਾ. ਅਲਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਣ ਲਈ  ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ। ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਕੁਝ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੈ:-

Whenever it comes to the martyrs of freedom, Bhagat Singh is counted among the patriots of the revolutionary movement. Mostly his persona is portrayed as violent But when we read the letters written by Bhagat Singh in jail we see a different form of him. At the intellectual level, he was very intellectual, philosophical and peaceful person. The letter written by Bhagat Singh to Jaydev Gupta on 24 July 1930 shows his interest in books. In the letter, he asks his friend for 11 books and delivers them to Boston Prison inmates and his friend Dr. He also asked to send an alarm. The list of books is as follows: -
